I.M. Panagiotopoulos Junior High School

The project aim is to modernize the building facilities by creating new, up to date, safe, functional spaces that support the needs of the institution.
The new building, for the Junior High School, had to connect visually and functionally with the existing facilities of the instituion located on the adjacent plots.
A harmonious integration into the surroundings, with respect to the natural and artificial landscape, was the primary objective while designing.
Two volumes, A and B, are positioned in the plot in a way that allows future expansion. Building A houses the new administrative spaces. Building B , which is L-shaped, houses all the classrooms and laboratories.
A significant part of the complex is occupied by connecting units (corridors) as well as auxiliary spaces that ensure the school’s sustainable operation.

The final layout creates a controlled courtyard at the center of the building volumes.

The inner courtyard isolates users from the disturbance of the main road while also separating the sports facilities at the rear of the plot, ensuring controlled access to them and minimizing potential disturbances. More specifically, the sports facilities include an outdoor 5×5 football field and an outdoor basketball court. The total covered area is 800 sq.m.
